Classic Worm Warfare With a Fresh Twist

Use ridiculous weapons and a bit of luck can decide the winner. The basic idea is simple: outplay the opposing teams, cause as much destruction as possible, and make sure your worms are the ones left standing.

Big Weapons, Bigger Explosions

The battlefield is built for turn-based mayhem. Carefully position your worms, use the terrain for cover, and pick the right weapon for the situation. You can bring out heavy machinery, dig into the landscape, or set up traps before your opponent gets the chance to strike.

There are 30 campaign missions to work through, along with more than 80 weapons and utilities to experiment with. Some of the classics are still here, including the Holy Hand Grenade, Super Sheep, and Concrete Donkey. Sometimes a carefully planned attack works perfectly. Other times, simply throwing explosives everywhere feels like the better option.

Vehicles, Buildings and Plenty of Chaos

Worms W.M.D. adds several new ideas without losing the fun that makes the series work. Worms can hide inside buildings, jump into vehicles, and make better use of improved ballistics during battles. These additions give the matches a little more depth without taking away from the familiar Worms formula.

The hand-drawn visuals also stand out, especially if 2D Worms games are your thing. The environments are detailed and colorful, while the worms themselves keep their goofy attitude, now with noticeably sharper teeth.

Solo Missions and Multiplayer Battles

There is plenty to do before heading into multiplayer. Training Missions help sharpen the basics, while the Campaign and Challenges provide solo content for anyone who wants to practice or cause destruction without other players.

Once you’re ready, multiplayer supports local, online, and ranked matches against up to five opponents. Alliances can form and fall apart just as quickly, and a perfectly planned attack can still end with a worm accidentally launching itself straight into the sea.

Customization and Crafting

Customization is fairly extensive, although some of the options feel a little scattered. There are plenty of fun extras, including Team Fortress 2-inspired hats and masks representing all nine classes. The expanded selection of voice lines also adds more personality and helps fill out the character of the worms.

Features of Worms W.M.D:

  • The crafting system is another useful addition. It lets players decide whether to save ingredients for a powerful weapon or spend them on something cheaper that can help immediately at Worms W.M.D. That choice can add another layer of strategy to a match.
  • The main campaign, however, doesn’t do much to encourage experimentation with crafting. Many of the newer weapons are also variations on existing ideas, so the system feels more like an extra tactical option than a complete overhaul of the gameplay in Worms W.M.D.
  • Overall, Worms W.M.D. keeps the classic turn-based artillery action intact while adding vehicles, buildings, crafting, improved physics, and plenty of new ways to cause trouble.
  • The result is a colorful and genuinely entertaining Worms experience where careful planning and complete nonsense can work equally well.
