A World Where Hatred Takes Over

Something strange has happened in modern-day Japan. On an ordinary spring day, an outbreak with no known cause suddenly begins spreading across the country. Those affected gradually lose every positive emotion and become hostile, zombie-like creatures known as Kagebito.

What makes these enemies especially dangerous is that they do not lose their intelligence. Their minds remain intact, but all the good emotions are replaced by hatred and other dark feelings.

Caught in the middle of this chaos is Asumi, a high-school senior searching for her best friend, Yuna. Getting to her will not be easy. Along the way, Asumi has to travel through dangerous locations, deal with intelligent and merciless enemies, and work through unusual puzzles.

Story, Customization, and Gameplay

The story of focuses not only on surviving the Kagebito, but also on friendship, loss, and hope.

Asumi can also be customized by collecting different items found throughout the world. This gives players some freedom to change her appearance as they explore.

The gameplay of Project Sakura is built around a third-person perspective, with a selection of weapons and a strong focus on shooting. Exploration, puzzles, combat, and survival all come together as Asumi continues her search for Yuna.

What Already Works Well

There is plenty to like in the current build. The UI has a clean look, while both the environments and Asumi herself have been designed with a lot of attention to detail. The outfits are particularly impressive and look much better than expected.

The soundtrack is another highlight. It fits the atmosphere nicely, and having fully voiced dialogue adds a lot more personality to the characters and scenes.

Project Sakura already shows plenty of potential. The concept is interesting, the visual presentation is appealing, and there is enough here to make the project worth keeping an eye on.

Features of Project Sakura:

  • The current version also has a few rough edges. Character movements can sometimes look unnatural, while both the shooting and melee combat could use more impact and polish. Performance is another area that needs attention, especially when it comes to maintaining stable frame rates.
  • Some of the Japanese text placed around the environments also feels a little unusual. It is a fairly minor detail and does not really get in the way of the experience, so leaving it unchanged would not be a major concern.
  • There are a few strange details in the settings menu as well. For example, the menu categories appear in both English and Japanese, but the word “CONTROL” is oddly matched with “衣類,” which means “Clothing.”
  • One other detail worth mentioning is the game’s name. “Project Sakura” is only a temporary working title at this stage, and the final title will be revealed at a later date. Project Sakura is still in development, so some of these issues could naturally change before release.

Minimum System Requirements:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 (64 bit)
  • Additional Notes: System requirements will be announced later.
