Take Over Humans and Use Them to Survive

Set in a modern city, Parasite puts you in control of a small creature that cannot survive independently for very long. Every action consumes energy in Parasite, making possession a necessity rather than a choice. Finding a human host gives you a way to keep going, but each body has its limits.

Your host serves as a disguise, a source of energy, and a means of interacting with the world. Use its abilities, access restricted areas with keycards, or turn its weapons against anyone who gets in the way. You can also examine its mind to uncover personal details, useful knowledge, and memories. Once a host becomes too weak to continue, it is time to find another.

Possession, Brain Probing, and Evolution

Taking control of someone involves attaching yourself to their body, overpowering their resistance, and establishing control. Human hosts gradually tire, deteriorate, and eventually die, so choosing between short-term use and keeping a body for longer adds another layer to survival.

Brain probing lets you extract names, skills, information, and clues directly from a victim’s mind. However, this process consumes their energy and damages their health. Push too far, and the host may collapse permanently.

There is also a way to make possession less hostile. Remain inside the same person long enough, and they may become accustomed to your presence at Parasite. With enough time, you can convince them to cooperate and use their voice to communicate with others.

As you progress, research new biological upgrades and develop them through your hosts. Available mutations include neurotoxin needles, hallucinogenic gas, camouflage, and the ability to implant false memories. Each upgrade provides another way to manipulate people, escape danger, or gain an advantage over your pursuers.

Build a Hidden Nest and Uncover the Truth

A safe place to recover can make the difference between survival and a quick death. Establish a habitat in the city’s underground sewers or settle inside a remote mountain cave. These nests offer several useful options, including assimilating hosts in Parasite, replenishing energy with biomineral, placing watchers to detect incoming threats, and preparing an ovum that allows you to be reborn after death.

Exploration also plays a major role in uncovering the mystery behind your existence. Search different parts of the city for evidence and piece together a timeline of events. As new clues emerge, the investigation works backward from the present, gradually revealing what happened before everything began.

The Group and Cultus Carnis

Your biggest threat comes from The Group, a government-backed organization responsible for containing secrets and dealing with things the public should never discover. Its agents already have information about you. They can follow your trail, locate your habitats, and set traps inside places where you might expect to be safe. Gathering enough intelligence from their operatives eventually gives you the opportunity to pursue the organization’s leader.

At the same time, there is room to establish a network of human followers through Cultus Carnis . Recruit people whose professions can provide influence in combat, the media, law, business, and politics. Organize ordeals, supply your followers with equipment, and call on them when their skills or connections become useful. Building this cult opens up another way to expand your influence beyond direct possession.

Explore a Changing City and Choose Your Approach

Each playthrough generates a fully 3D environment with a different layout, giving you plenty of places to explore and hide. The setting includes busy downtown areas, residential neighborhoods, slums, corporate offices, research facilities, military installations, and wilderness beyond the city limits. Regional travel takes place through a sewer network, connecting the different locations while giving you another route to move around unseen.
