Nighthawks puts a darker spin on the vampire RPG formula. The starting point is far from glamorous: a nightclub in a rough part of town.

A New Life After Dark
The secret is finally out. Vampires are no longer hiding from the world, and the newest addition to their ranks is ready to make a name for itself. Six months after dying and returning as a vampire, the former human now has a second life to figure out.
Being a vampire sounds impressive on paper. In reality, things are far more complicated. Humanity knows about vampires now, and while their existence is generally tolerated, the constant need for blood is another matter entirely.
A fresh beginning seems possible in the one city prepared to give vampires a chance. But the streets are still filled with distrust, fear, and suspicion. Death may have failed to keep this new vampire down, and humanity’s fear certainly isn’t going to stop the rise of another creature of the night.
When darkness falls, the outsiders come alive. That’s when the real work begins.
Welcome to Nighthawks
From there, the goal is to turn the failing venue into a thriving empire.
Seduction, intimidation, clever decisions, and supernatural Gifts all have a role to play. The club can become a gathering place for lonely people and fellow outcasts, or it can simply serve as a way to satisfy personal ambitions and an ever-present thirst for blood.
Along the way, ten companions can be recruited, each bringing their own personality, history, and abilities to the group. Among them are the vampire magician Madame Lux, the endlessly scheming con artist Maze, disgraced private investigator Domino, and Agatha, the eccentric Empress of the Rats.
Powers, People, and Plenty of Trouble
Supernatural abilities give the new life plenty of options. Mesmerism can be used to control humans, Natural Dominion allows animals to be commanded, and Tenebrous Form lets the vampire transform into smoke.
Then there are the less supernatural complications: murder, romance, betrayal, friendship, and everything else that comes with building relationships while running a nightclub and living as a modern monster.
Who Made Nighthawks?
Nighthawks was written and designed by Richard Cobbett, known for Sunless Sea and Sunless Skies. Ben Chandler, whose work includes Old Skies and Unavowed, handled the art, while Thomas Regin provided the music. Dave Gilbert of Wadjet Eye Games served as producer.
The game was also brought to life with support from 3,934 Kickstarter backers, along with many other people who offered their support and assistance during development.
And, naturally, the rats deserve a mention too. Their Empress provided them generously, with payment apparently being made in the form of delicious berries.

Features of Nighthawks:
- The world itself is packed with fully voiced dialogue, dark comedy, neon-lit streets, and more than 800,000 words of stories and secrets.
- There is plenty to uncover, ranging from ridiculous moments to genuinely disturbing ones. The writing explores a world where vampires no longer control the shadows and where both humans and the undead are still trying to understand what comes next.
- The nightclub itself can grow into more than just a business. It can become a place where isolated people find one another and where outsiders slowly become something resembling a family. How that opportunity is handled depends on the choices made along the way.
