A Short Trip Into The Whispering Crypt

The journey leads into an ancient brutalist catacomb known as The Whispering Crypt, where a Knight of the Crimson Clan must face whatever waits in the darkness.

There is only one weapon to rely on, and it comes with a nasty drawback: its ammunition is the player’s own blood.

According to legend, anyone who survives the trials and gathers all four Artifacts of Desire will meet the Entity of Desire and receive one wish. Sounds tempting, right? There is just one problem. Nobody who has attempted the journey has made it back alive.

Concrete Burial is built as a short first-person horror game that can be finished in roughly one to two hours. That limited runtime works well here. It keeps the experience focused without dragging things out, making it an easy game to pick up and finish in one sitting.

Four Trials, Four Different Challenges

The journey is split across four distinct areas, and each one brings something different to the table. There is platforming, strange and confusing puzzle-solving, and the dreaded water-based dungeons. Adding even more pressure is an unsettling guardian that continues to stalk the player along the way.

The atmosphere does a lot of the heavy lifting. The brutalist architecture gives the catacombs a cold, oppressive feel, while the ancient entity watching from the shadows keeps the tension high. The sense of being observed never really goes away.

CONCRETE BURIAL also keeps things refreshingly simple. There is no huge inventory to manage or complicated combat system to learn. The blood-powered weapon is the main tool available, and surviving the trials depends just as much on staying alert as it does on using it properly.

A Brief But Memorable Horror Experience

Concrete Burial falls into the short-but-sweet category. Its one-to-two-hour length may seem brief, but there is enough variety across the four trials to make the journey worthwhile. The low asking price also makes it an easy game to recommend to anyone looking for a compact horror experience.

The ending takes a very direct and abrupt approach. It is a style that only a handful of games have really pulled off effectively, and Concrete Burial makes particularly good use of it. Rather than stretching things out, it knows when to stop.

There is also some extra value after the main journey. Finishing CONCRETE BURIAL unlocks Speedrun Mode, giving players a reason to return and see how quickly the entire ordeal can be completed.
