A Dark Sci-Fi Roguelike

The goal sounds simple enough: push through the Deadzones, collect whatever useful equipment turns up, and stay alive long enough to help secure humanity’s future.

The story takes place in the year 29XX, after interplanetary wars broke out while a deadly nanite plague swept across the star colonies. Human populations were devastated, leaving scattered survivors on the planet Celestious. They now search underground zones for supplies and forgotten technology while trying to survive the creatures, bandits, and monsters hiding in the blackouts in Deadzoned.

Turn-Based Combat With Plenty of Risk

The gameplay sticks to the classic Roguelike formula but gives it a strong sci-fi flavor. Each run sends players deeper into the Deadzones, where enemies range from small critters and hostile creatures to outlaw gangs, cultists, and much larger threats lurking in the darkness.

Equipment is often battered, limited, or simply strange, so every useful item can make a difference. Ammunition is also limited, which makes careless shooting a bad habit. Exploring every corner can bring better rewards, but it can also put a run in serious danger.

Taking down enemies earns XP, allowing stats to improve while new Talents help shape the character build. With the right choices, even a rough collection of scavenged gear can turn into a surprisingly effective setup.

What Makes Each Run Different

Procedural generation keeps the experience from following the same path every time. Zones receive different layouts, events, enemies, equipment, and opportunities, while character progression can change through different Talent choices.

Combat also moves at a fairly quick arcade-like pace. There is no need to spend ages worrying about inventory weight. Grab the weapons that look useful, keep moving in Deadzoned, and fire away — just remember that the ammo supply will not last forever.

Several game modes are available depending on how much time is available. A short run can take around 20 minutes, while longer modes offer deeper journeys with their own difficulty levels, equipment pools, enemy selections, and final bosses.

There are also multiple character classes, including Bounty Hunters, Psychics, Technomaniacs, and the rather unfortunate Deprived Wretch. Each class has different stat preferences and Talents, giving runs a distinct feel depending on the chosen character.

Optional events add another layer of risk and reward. Some encounters can be tackled for extra loot and higher scores, while others can simply be avoided. These events range from dealing with Cannibal camps to facing a Boneraiser that summons skeletons. Special entrances can also lead into Forbidden or Plagued Deadzones, where the danger is higher but the potential rewards are better.
