Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists PC (Final)

In Thousand Hells, four heroes face the dangers of the underworld through tactical, story-driven encounters where every decision can shape what happens next.

Created by the designers behind King of Dragon Pass and the Six Ages series, Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists combines mythology, surreal fantasy, and a systemic storybook format. The result is a strange journey through the afterlife where survival depends as much on the people brought along as the choices made along the way.

Build the Right Party

No expedition into hell should be attempted with just anyone. Each hero comes with a profession, individual abilities, and personality traits, so putting together a balanced group matters.

Some situations call for a specific skill, while others can become much easier with the right personality. A bard might settle down a group of hostile bandits and prevent a fight, while a demonologist could communicate with a possessed book. Picking a varied group gives the party more ways to deal with whatever appears underground.

The setting is the Eternal City, a Byzantine-inspired fantasy realm built above countless hidden underworlds. Demons, strange guardians, gods, and valuable treasures wait below the streets. A mysterious client offers one final job, but completing it requires more than simply showing up with a sword.

Choices Shape Every Journey

The Ambassador gives the party a contract before each mission, but the objective changes from one assignment to another. Careful planning can help, although things rarely stay under control for long once the journey begins.

More than 280 dynamic narrative encounters put decisions in the hands of the player. Each situation offers different ways forward, and the safest option is not always the most rewarding. Taking a chance can lead to a major payoff, while a poor decision might leave a hero injured or put the entire party in serious trouble.

The group’s condition also changes as the adventure continues. Successes and failures can affect skills, meaning the party you start with may not feel quite the same later in the run.

Explore Different Underworlds

Every underworld has its own identity, threats, and atmosphere. One journey might follow the familiar path of Orpheus as the party attempts to rescue a loved one. Another could involve protecting the Eternal City from an insect plague.

How the party approaches these challenges affects how the story develops. Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists is built as an anthology of myth-inspired adventures written by eight different writers, including Robin D. Laws and Aaron A. Reed. Hundreds of hand-painted illustrations add to the distinctive look of each journey.

Every hell also has its own visual palette and unusual dangers, giving each mission a different feel rather than simply sending the same threats at the party again and again.

Features of Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists:

  • Built for Replayability
  • A single run takes around an hour, making Thousand Hells easy to pick up without needing a huge block of free time. Automatic saving and a story synopsis also make it simple to return to a mission after a break.
  • Failed missions can be attempted again, while new quests can create entirely different experiences. The group of helpers changes between runs too, giving another reason to try a different approach.
  • At its heart, Thousand Hells asks a simple question: can four heroes survive the Thousand Hells? The answer depends on the team, the risks taken, and how well the party handles whatever the next encounter throws at them.
  • Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists takes place in a standalone fantasy setting created by the team behind King of Dragon Pass and Six Ages. Its anthology structure brings together the work of eight writers, supported by hand-painted artwork throughout. No generative AI was used in the game’s creation.
