KILL THE WITCH PC (v1.4i2 Final)

KILL THE WITCH unfolds in a mostly linear structure of stages and boss fights, built around three core actions—move, jump, and roll— and two signature mechanics: Home Run and Transformation. Beneath its intuitive and minimalistic controls lies a game that truly earns its hardcore label—with punishing difficulty and a narrative that refuses to go easy on you. The art style is excellent pixel art, and the main character, bosses, and enemy designs did not disappoint—they are awesome. The music works well as a background theme.

However, the level design and part of the gameplay feel like they lack in certain ways. Gameplay first: the controls are somewhat clunky, and the behavior of some enemies feels like it needs some changes. The boss fights are amazing, but, for example, in the second phase of the second boss fight, there are some “hearts” that cannot be reached because some enemies are supposedly placed there so you can hit both them and the hearts at the same time. If those enemies are killed in the wrong direction, prepare to go left and right, waiting for an enemy to line up with the heart so it can be hit correctly. It’s not impossible, but it is extremely annoying.

Now, the level design. It doesn’t feel natural; it feels weird. It’s playable and gets to the point, but it could improve a lot. The theme, world, character designs, and overall art style are all very appealing. Hopefully, KILL THE WITCH continues to improve over time, but in its current state, it’s hard to keep playing. The boss battles are the clear highlight. The stages leading up to the bosses aren’t that challenging, and you can usually get by with just dodging around, but the boss battles require extreme levels of patience.

They can be frustrating at times, mainly because the moveset is very limited: jump, dodge, and attack. Bosses have multiple phases, and failing sends you back to the start of the fight. The second boss battle was so demanding that it left a sore wrist and was only cleared with 2 lives remaining out of the 33 starting ones. KILL THE WITCH is linear, with what seems to be just one secret per level that grants a health upgrade. Given how brutal the difficulty becomes, these don’t feel like a nice bonus but rather a necessity for beating KILL THE WITCH.
