Build Characters Your Own Way

Battles reward Echoes and memory fragments, while each new area reveals more about the characters and the world around them.

One of the strongest parts of The Bell Echoes is how much freedom there is when developing each character. Every hero has several possible build paths, and equipment can completely change how a character performs in combat.

For example, one of the characters available near the beginning specializes in wind-based attacks. One build can focus on pushing enemies around the battlefield, causing collision damage and gaining extra damage when enemies are placed on wind-infused tiles. Another setup can take advantage of elevation, giving the character increased damage against enemies positioned below while keeping them out of reach of many melee attacks.

That level of flexibility makes character development feel meaningful. The same character can play very differently depending on the skills, talents, equipment, gems, and other upgrades selected in The Bell Echoes.

As the party moves farther into the Corrupted Lands, characters continue to develop in different directions. Skill Insights can alter how abilities work, while other upgrades can create entirely new combinations. This means repeated runs are not simply about becoming stronger; they also give plenty of room to experiment with different playstyles.

Tactical Combat With Plenty of Freedom

The combat is not built around the usual formula of moving once and attacking once. Each character has a broad selection of abilities, allowing an entire turn to be planned around available resources. Multiple skills can be chained together, opening up far more options than a basic attack-and-move system.

The three members of the party can also combine their actions. When their abilities work together, a single turn can become a carefully planned sequence of attacks, positioning, and effects.

The battlefield itself adds another layer to the strategy. Elevation, cover, knockbacks, collisions, objects, and terrain all have an effect on what can happen during a fight.

Enemies can be slammed into obstacles, objects can be used to create chain reactions, and terrain can be turned into part of an attack or defensive setup. Even a small-looking arena can offer several different solutions once all of these mechanics are taken into account.

This is where The Bell Echoes really starts to stand out. Battles can change dramatically depending on where enemies and party members are positioned, rather than simply coming down to which character has the biggest numbers.

Echoes, Memories, and the Story

Winning battles and taking down elite enemies provides valuable Echoes. These are used to progress through the story and open access to deeper regions of the Corrupted Lands.
