A Descent Into the Dark

Deep beneath a cursed cemetery, a forgotten network of crypts has become a breeding ground for insects, twisted flesh, and decay. Hidden beneath a forest that seems to swallow every trace of light, the once-peaceful burial grounds now feel more like a living nightmare.

This visceral action-horror FPS puts the focus firmly on combat. The controls feel responsive, movement is solid, and the gameplay of GUTTED: Infested Crypts delivers a steady stream of encounters with grotesque creatures. There is very little downtime, so expect to spend most of the experience fighting rather than waiting for something to happen.

The darkness still plays an important role. Some areas offer very little visibility, making the flashlight an essential tool as the surroundings close in. Strange noises, distant screeches, crawling sounds, and stretches of silence help create tension, especially when something can be heard before it appears.

Heavy Combat and Brutal Gore

Combat has plenty of weight behind it. Weapons hit hard at close range, enemies react with satisfying impact, and well-placed shots can completely tear creatures apart. The dismemberment system is particularly bloody, with enemies losing body parts or practically exploding when they take damage in the right places.

The creature designs also fit the setting nicely. Many of the monsters are covered in spikes, lined with sharp teeth, and generally look nasty enough to make every encounter memorable. The gore adds another layer to the combat, although some of the exaggerated sound effects can come across as unintentionally funny. Certain blood-splatter noises are so over-the-top that they almost sound like exaggerated “juicy gore” effects.

Horror That Favors Combat

Despite the dark setting, this is not really a slow-burn horror experience. Since enemies are constantly present, the main goal quickly becomes clearing them out rather than anticipating a surprise attack.

There are a few jump scares along the way. They are not especially frequent or excessive, but some feel fairly cheap compared with what a more atmospheric approach could offer. A slower reveal, with monsters introduced through sounds, shadows, or subtle environmental details, could have created stronger tension. Still, the occasional jump scare is unlikely to bother anyone who enjoys that style of horror.
