Shape the Battlefield to Survive

When a battle starts going badly, the environment can become the best weapon available.

Destroy existing cover, move it into a better position, or build fresh defenses using the power of Elios. Ice pillars can block enemy movement, while explosive pillars can trap opponents and deal heavy damage. Mines and other traps add another layer of planning, and enemies can even be shoved into carefully prepared hazards.

The result is combat that rewards more than simply finding cover and firing. Every fight becomes a chance to manipulate the surroundings and create an advantage.

A Roguelite Journey Across the Wastes

The journey begins with a group of survivors crossing vast, unforgiving sands in search of a place they can finally call home. Imperial-controlled territory stands between the caravan and a new life, turning every stage of the journey into a dangerous gamble.

Dunebound Tactics is a turn-based tactical RPG built around a fully roguelite structure. The desert changes from run to run, with battlefields in Dunebound Tactics, locations, and quests appearing in different combinations. Even familiar situations can play out differently, keeping each expedition unpredictable.

Failure also has a purpose. Previous runs can leave behind modules, survivors, and other resources that may become useful during the next attempt at Dunebound Tactics. Discovering the wreckage of an earlier caravan can even lead to finding survivors from that failed journey.

The caravan follows the Elios leylines aboard a fragile ship, with its engine relying on a steady supply of Elios. This valuable resource can be obtained through story-driven quests or collected from fallen enemies. In desperate situations, even members of the crew can become a source of Elios.

Tactical Combat With Real Consequences

Combat takes place in high-pressure, turn-based encounters where a single decision can change the outcome. Terrain manipulation plays a major role, giving battles a more active feel than a standard cover-and-shoot setup.

Caravan abilities can support the party during close-range encounters, whether that means strengthening allies, destroying cover, or damaging enemies before they have the chance to cause lasting harm.

Different missions also demand different approaches. Some situations call for holding out during a last stand, while others require taking down elite enemies through assassination-style objectives.

The enemy roster includes 38 different classes, with the party caught between the Imperials and the Arcanists in Dunebound Tactics. Learning how opposing units work and preparing around their abilities can make the difference between keeping the crew alive and losing valuable members.

Build a Crew Worth Fighting For

More survivors can be rescued and recruited along the way, but the caravan has limited space. Some may be discovered wandering through the desert, while others can be freed from Imperial control. These encounters are tied to narrative events, meaning the people brought aboard can influence how the journey unfolds.

Features of Dunebound Tactics:

  • There are 15 distinct classes and 16 unique traits, giving characters plenty of room to develop in different directions.
  • Traits can improve skills and statistics or introduce additional abilities, while more than 50 modules can be equipped to further strengthen the party in Dunebound Tactics.
  • Keeping everyone alive is not always possible, either. After a tough battle, wounded crew members can be treated in the infirmary. Alternatively, Elios can be extracted from their bodies, leaving them as empty husks while providing fuel for the caravan or its engine.
  • With limited resources, a dangerous environment at Dunebound Tactics, competing factions, and a crew that cannot all be saved, every run creates difficult choices.
  • The goal remains simple: get the survivors across the wastes and reach a better tomorrow. Getting there is the hard part.
