Halloween is right around the corner, a favorite sports-ball team just won a big rivalry game, an extra cheese pizza is on the way, and the bedroom window is slightly ajar to let in that crisp autumn breeze at SPORTAL. The vibes are immaculate. The weapon variety covers most of the bases, featuring baseball bats, hockey sticks, footballs, lacrosse sticks, golf clubs, and frisbees, representing many of the major sports.

The arenas are tight, intimate spaces, with some larger than others, and each wave feels fresh thanks to the abundance of mutators that add variety and unpredictability. A few bugs were encountered, including getting stuck on pipes, enemies continuing to move while upgrades were being selected, and a handful of seemingly random deaths. Even with those flaws, While not quite a grand slam, Sportal is a solid three-base hit. With a few tweaks, it could easily become a home run.
