Build, Test, and Take on the Fleet

Unlock additional parts as you progress, and take on increasingly difficult opponents throughout the campaign.

The campaign features more than 50 missions and lets you fight your way across Europe. Prefer experimenting over following missions? The custom battle mode lets you put your own designs against each other, giving plenty of room to test unusual builds and work out efficient ship layouts.

A sandbox multiplayer mode is also available for up to 10 players. Damage can be switched on or off, so battles can be used for actual naval combat or simply for showing off custom ships.

Real-Time Physics and Naval Combat

ShipCrafter puts a strong focus on physics. Buoyancy is calculated in real time using the ship’s weight and the amount of its hull beneath the water. The editor displays both density and center of mass, making it possible to fine-tune a design or even build submarines with adjustable ballasts.

Combat follows the same physics-based approach. Shells have simulated trajectories that account for air pressure, atmospheric density at different altitudes, and the effect of speed on drag. Armor penetration depends on several factors, including armor thickness, impact angle, shell velocity, and shell mass, along with the probability of a shell bouncing off the surface.

Damage is handled through the physics system rather than a simple health bar. A hit can affect individual systems such as turrets and engines, reducing their performance during a fight.

ShipCrafter also includes realistic ballistic trajectories, although projectile speeds and combat distances have been reduced to keep battles moving. At real-world scale, hitting a target 20 km away could take more than a minute.

Weather, Ships, and Custom Battles

Ocean conditions aren’t static either. Waves are simulated in real time, while the weather system adds rain and changing wave heights. Day and night cycles can also change the look and feel of a battle.

More than 20 different ships are available to fight, with support for battleships, cruisers, submarines, and other naval designs. Weapon systems can be operated manually or automatically, depending on how much control is preferred during combat.

The custom battle editor gives even more freedom. Weather and time of day can be adjusted, and bot-versus-bot naval battles can be set up to watch different designs fight without direct player control.

An experimental real-time fluid simulation is also included. For a closer look at the finished vessel, ships can be explored from a first-person perspective.

Features of ShipCrafter:

  • Workshop, Modding, and Visuals
  • ShipCrafter supports the Steam Workshop, making it possible to share custom vessels with the community and download ships created by other players. Official modding support adds another way to expand the game and experiment with new ideas.
  • The game also includes a raytracing renderer for creating high-quality screenshots. A dedicated scene setup allows the sun’s position and fog to be adjusted before capturing an image, making it possible to create custom scenes and polished shots of your ships.
  • ShipCrafter combines ship building, naval combat, sandbox experimentation, and detailed physics in one package. There is plenty to tweak, whether the goal is designing a practical warship, experimenting with submarines, or simply building something unusual and watching it enter battle.

Minimum System Requirements:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • Processor: 4 cores – 3GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: GTX1060
