So remember the golden rule: if it has a health bar, if it looks like a spawn from hell, or if it looks like that one person your mum told you to avoid as a kid, attack first and interact later. Suffering among us gamers needs to be shared, and what better way to do that than by voluntarily putting ourselves through another soulslike? The combat is smooth, the art style, graphics, and world design are phenomenal, and the shells being easy class swaps keep things from ever feeling repetitive.

There are also tons of trinket “familiars” that can be set as either active or passive. Each shell has its own easily resettable talent tree, allowing gameplay to be changed up entirely. Also, the dungeons are fantastic. In another timeline, getting trapped in one must have caused some serious Stockholm syndrome, because there are endless ones to do here (and they can be marked off on completion for anyone who is anal about that sort of thing). Not to mention all the open-world rituals, puzzles, gates (no, not annoying like Oblivion’s), and beacon shrines to cleanse.

Tracking down everything in Mortal Shell II is a joy, and honestly, there was never a moment of frustration. In fact, grinding spots for gold and gloom was genuinely fun just for the sake of it. FYI, Proxima is the best for farming money because she can make enemies drop an extra item that can be sold once talented. It’s amazing that only 30 people made this and priced it fairly at 50 dollars. Mortal Shell II also seems very well optimized, with ultrawide support and PC options like DLSS, frame generation, ray tracing, etc. There is no FOV slider, but turning on “action cam” pulls the camera out, and that worked well.
