Two Ways to Experience the Hunt

Severance offers two different ways to play, depending on the kind of horror experience you’re after.

Ghost AI Mode: Face an AI-controlled entity that watches your movements, reacts to your decisions, and gradually increases the pressure. It uses the surroundings to frighten investigators, affects their sanity, and chooses the right moment to begin a hunt.

Ghost Player Mode: Take control of the supernatural threat yourself and go after your friends. Instead of simply running from danger, one player becomes the danger, creating an entirely different kind of multiplayer experience.

🧟 Ghost Player Mode (Asymmetrical Horror)

This is where Severance gets particularly interesting. One player takes the role of the ghost while everyone else works together as paranormal investigators.

Playing as the entity means more than just chasing people around. Interact with the environment, slam or lock doors, throw objects, and use different abilities to frighten the investigating team. Manage sanity levels, choose when to trigger hunts, and use well-timed scares to keep everyone under pressure. A little strategy goes a long way when the other players are trying to figure out your identity.

🛠 Paranormal Equipment

SEVERANCE combines traditional ghost-hunting equipment with some more unusual tools. EMF meters and thermometers help detect supernatural activity, while video cameras provide another way to monitor haunted areas. Possession dolls add an extra layer to investigations, giving players another way to track and provoke the entity.

Choosing the right equipment and knowing when to use it can make a big difference when identifying the ghost.
