Experience comes from the number of attacks made and enemies defeated, so early progression benefits heavily from investing in agility. A faster build can prevent enemies from getting many chances to attack while also filling the special attack bar more quickly. That means less incoming damage and more special attacks at the same time.

Charms and Losing a Run

Charms add another layer to the build system in Onigotchi. Each one can provide a different special effect, allowing stats and equipment to work together in different ways.

Losing a run isn’t simply a dead end, either. A failed run results in the Oni getting bred, which can give a chance to receive a new charm. That makes experimenting with different setups worthwhile, especially when trying to find a combination that fits a particular strategy.

Extra charm slots are also worth picking up as soon as possible. Having more charms equipped opens up stronger combinations and gives builds much more flexibility.

Useful Tips for Progression

By around Area 3, strength should start receiving much more attention. Dumping points into it becomes more useful at this stage, since relying too heavily on an agility-focused setup can work against the trees’ counterattack mechanic.

The slower training meter upgrade should also be taken early at Onigotchi. Getting three points during a level-up is valuable, so the sooner this upgrade is purchased, the more mileage it provides throughout the run.

The extra milk chance is another worthwhile investment, especially when aiming for more attempts at the lottery wheel. Milk is relatively easy to come by compared with coins, and the potential rewards can be significant. A lucky spin can provide 250 extra coins or even a free charm upgrade.

Shop Choices and Final Boss Prep

Potions are generally not worth buying from the shop during the earlier areas. They don’t offer particularly good value there. Areas 3 and 4 are different, though, since potions provide much better mileage and become more reasonable purchases.

For the final boss in Stage 4, pay attention to which charms the boss doesn’t benefit from stealing. Those charms can be especially useful as upgrade targets, so saving them for that point can make the final stretch easier.

Overall, Onigotchi keeps its core loop pretty straightforward: train the Oni, improve the build, collect useful charms, and keep pushing into tougher areas. The fun comes from figuring out which stats and charm combinations work best as the enemies and mechanics change.
