Murders, relationships, power, and consequences all collide.

The role is that of a brilliant former conman who now works as a police consultant. He’s confident, charming, and extremely good at persuading people. His job gives him access to dangerous cases, questionable situations, and plenty of freedom to make decisions that can have serious consequences.

The cases range from brutal double murders and kidnappings to hostage situations and seemingly impossible locked-room crimes. Each investigation plays differently, and there isn’t always a clear-cut answer waiting at the end.

Murders & Mistresses isn’t simply a game about collecting evidence. Reading people, building theories, questioning suspects, and deciding who seems guilty can matter just as much as the facts themselves. Every case has a genuine culprit and motive, even if the investigation doesn’t uncover them.

Investigate, Deduce, and Make the Call

There are five detective cases to work through, covering homicides, hostage negotiations, and kidnappings. Two investigation styles are available, so the experience can be approached in different ways.

Story Mode keeps things straightforward: investigate the crime, question people, connect the clues, and eventually decide who you believe is responsible and explain why.

Detective Mode takes the reasoning further. Deductions can be combined into case theories, which can then connect with other theories to build a larger explanation of the crime. With more than 6,000 possible combinations and over 550 case theories, there is plenty to piece together.

There is no simple screen that announces whether the final answer is correct. Murders & Mistresses remembers the decisions made instead.

Relationships, Marriage, and Life Between Cases

The detective work isn’t the only thing happening around the city. Between investigations, there are dates, hangouts, hookups, and plenty of opportunities to make questionable decisions.

Seduce suspects, flirt with a boss or colleague, attempt to beat lie detectors, play tabletop RPGs, negotiate threesomes, or simply make choices that push things too far. The boundaries are largely up to the player in Murders & Mistresses.

The marriage system adds another major branch to the story. The relationship with your wife can follow three different paths:

• Exclusive: She expects the relationship to stay between the two of you and gives the same commitment in return. Cheating is possible, but it comes with risks.
• Semi-Open: She is comfortable sharing you, while you remain exclusive to her. She may even want to watch or take part.
• Open: Both sides can explore relationships with other people, including situations where you watch or participate.

Whichever path is chosen, the marriage is presented as loving and committed, without resentment, hidden agendas, or humiliation. The options are there, but none are mandatory.
