Play for up to six players, with scavenging, crafting, exploration, and plenty of things that would rather see you dead. The main goal sounds simple enough: find a way out. Getting there is another story in Inferno Protocol.

The maze changes as you move through it. A route that looked familiar a few minutes ago may lead somewhere completely different when you return. Corridors can open into forests, deserts, frozen chambers, and strange environments that feel completely out of place beneath the ground.

There is no reliable map to follow. Players have to make their own way of keeping track of where they’ve been. Spray paint, chalk, dropped objects, and scraps of paper can all become useful markers. Old maps can also turn up, although some are clearly more trustworthy than others. Even a compass has its limits.

Surviving What Lives Inside

Resources don’t exactly come in abundance at Inferno Protocol. Scrap metal, damaged wires, and whatever else can be salvaged become important when it’s time to make equipment. Defeated creatures can also be harvested for bones, armor, flesh, organs, and other useful materials. It’s not pretty, but wasting anything in a place like this is a bad idea.

Traps give another way to deal with the creatures roaming the corridors. Found traps can be put to use, while others can be crafted and placed wherever they might do the most damage. Set one up, keep your distance, and let the maze handle the rest.

Scattered throughout the underground world are notes, drawings, warnings, and messages left behind by people who came before. Some are little more than desperate scribbles. Others contain genuinely useful information, including hints about injectors, possible exits, or areas that should probably be avoided.

Camps, Settlements, and Other Survivors

The maze isn’t completely empty of people. A larger settlement sits near the center, offering a place to farm, build defenses, and create supplies in Inferno Protocol. Smaller camps can also be found farther out in the maze, although dealing with their inhabitants isn’t always straightforward.
