Digging Through the Mountain

As a wizard in need of supplies from the nearest castle, the goal is simple: carve out a shortcut and make the journey much faster.

Digging isn’t just about swinging a pickaxe. Magic plays a big part, too. Break through solid rock, cast spells, blow up stubborn obstacles, and use glowing slimes to light up dark underground paths. Along the way, collect valuable ores and crystals, discover hidden areas, and gather resources to improve your equipment at I’m a Wizard But I Dig.

Collect Resources, Upgrade Gear, and Explore

The mountain has plenty to offer, from rare materials to unexpected discoveries. Create safe routes through the underground, exchange collected resources with the Goose, and unlock better tools as progress continues. Every new upgrade makes it easier to dig deeper and uncover more of what the mountain has been hiding.

However, resource collection can become frustrating. Every reachable piece of ore needs to be clicked individually using the left mouse button in I’m a Wizard But I Dig. Depending on the stamina-based tool or magic item currently equipped, each click consumes stamina or magic. Running out of stamina can even lead to death.

For players who enjoy collecting absolutely everything they come across, this mechanic quickly becomes exhausting. Instead of feeling like a relaxing mining adventure, gathering resources can turn into a tedious task. Fall damage is another problem, as even relatively small drops can cause death far too easily.

There is also an issue with daily quest markers appearing in locations that cannot actually be reached, making some objectives confusing or impossible to complete.

Gameplay

The latest update introduces several adjustments, fixes, and small improvements to make the experience more enjoyable.

The idea of digging through a mountain with magic, explosives, and useful tools makes for an enjoyable little adventure. Exploring underground areas, finding rare resources, and building a shortcut to the castle are all satisfying parts of the experience.

Still, the individual resource-clicking system, unforgiving fall damage, and unreachable quest markers could use some attention. The recent fixes are a welcome step, though a few gameplay adjustments in I’m a Wizard But I Dig would make exploring and collecting much more enjoyable.

Features of I’m a Wizard But I Dig:

  • Tutorial Sleep: A new notification now explains that sleeping is unavailable during the tutorial. Previously, this restriction had no explanation.
  • Bomb Mechanics: Bombs can no longer be stored in the inventory after being activated. This also fixes an issue where picking up a bomb while throwing it could leave an endless fire effect stuck in place.
  • Localization: Corrected a spelling mistake in the English version of the word “language.”
  • Stamina: Fixed a bug that caused energy to drain continuously. This happened when a character died while running, leaving the running state active even after death.
  • Audio: Added throwing sound effects for slimes and boards when used outside the cave at I’m a Wizard But I Dig.
  • Visual Effects: Thrown slimes now display a smoke effect when they disappear outside the cave.
  • Interface: Scrolls now have a visual highlight, making notes easier to spot and read in the environment.
