Trashy Cashy PC (Final version)

A short, 2-4-hour incremental game about building a business by selling trash. Become a partner in the mysterious “Trashy Cashy” franchise. Unpack trash, ship it off, and rake in outrageous profits. Don’t ask too many questions. Sounds simple, right? Extracting trash from packages, pulling out junk, sorting it, and selling it to customers – what could be better than that? Only doing it more efficiently! Trashy Cashy is an incremental game where the main goal is to watch the numbers go up, and losing is impossible. Every action improves something – whether it is the chance of finding especially valuable trash, the power of the weapon you use to tear open packages, or the efficiency of your little metal helpers.

And here is Shelfie-9000 – your personal shopkeeper, trash recycler, photographer, fly and grime fighter, and an absolute cutie! A decent idle/incremental game inspired by the superior Scritchy Scratchy, which was previously reviewed very positively. It doesn’t quite deliver the same dopamine hit or level of engagement. The music also isn’t as strong, and while the visuals are decent, they lack the charming 8-bit style that made Scritchy Scratchy so appealing. Some of the upgrades don’t seem to make that much of a difference, and Trashy Cashy overall doesn’t feel as engaging as expected.

From the moment the first trash bag hits the table and the first cut is made, things feel off. The amount of material removed with each cut right at the start feels frustrating, and the opening hours feel sluggish.  Digging through trash is already the premise, and the mechanics end up feeling like trash too. After giving it another chance, the early game still feels rough. Cutting open bags takes quite a while, and selling the collected trash is painfully slow at first. The good news is that this is an incremental game, and the slow selling speed can be improved fairly quickly if those upgrades are prioritized.

The experience eventually loses momentum around the recycling/crafting stage because it also feels excessively slow, but that system can likely be improved through progression as well. Most of the complaints become less noticeable with upgrades. Overall, this seems pretty alright. It has layered progression systems, the numbers keep going up, and there’s a satisfying sense of growth. Trash being located above the knot of the bag is a little annoying since that’s not how garbage bags work, and it’s also one of the harder parts of the bag to cut in-game. Still, it’s a minor issue. Numbers go up. Have fun—but maybe don’t go rooting through real trash unless something important was accidentally thrown away.
