Get answers to unanswered family questions. Carl comes home for his sister’s birthday, but the celebration quickly takes an unexpected turn when two strangers appear at the door and threaten him in Gear Puzzle: the inheritance of grandpa. Their arrival may have something to do with the disappearance of Carl’s grandfather years earlier.

The family home is packed with things to investigate. Search each room, examine objects, pick up useful items, and figure out how different pieces fit together. Conversations with characters also reveal information as the story gradually exposes what happened to Carl’s grandfather.

Chapter 2 Opens a New World

The adventure now continues beyond the old house with the addition of Chapter 2. This time, Carl enters a miniature world with locations such as a square, a market, an altar, and more areas to discover.

New mechanical puzzles and clues await, including traces left behind by Carl’s grandfather. Both chapters come as part of the base game, so there is no extra purchase needed to access the second chapter.

Puzzles, Clues and Helpful Hints

Expect a mix of item hunting, item combinations, mechanical puzzles, exploration, and character conversations. The hand-drawn environments are filled with steampunk details, giving plenty of things to inspect while working through the family mystery.

When a puzzle gets a little tricky, free hints are available after the introductory tutorial. Gear Puzzle: the inheritance of grandpa starts with three hints, and one returns every three minutes until the maximum of three is reached. A timer shows when another hint will become available. Once a hint has already been revealed, checking it again does not use another one.

There are no advertisements, in-app purchases, or paid hints.

Players returning from the 2019 version should note that the updated game uses a different save format. Old progress cannot be loaded into this version, so starting a new game is required. Previous save files are not deleted, though.

To continue an existing 2019 save, open Gear Puzzle: the inheritance of grandpa’s Steam Properties, go to Betas, and select legacy_2019.
