Eventually, that long silence came to an end.
Now old and exhausted, she summons the strength she has left, spreads her wings, and sets out in search of the hero.
Explore, Fight, and Find Your Way
Dungeon Antiqua 2 is a 2D hack-and-slash dungeon RPG built around SNES-era visuals and audio. Its retro presentation pairs with exploration, tactical encounters, and a character system that gives plenty of room to experiment.
The adventure takes players through six different dungeons. Visibility plays an important role, as the corridors and enemies you can see depend on each character’s “vision” ability.
Encounters also work a little differently from a traditional RPG. Enemies appear as symbols, allowing them to be avoided by moving around them. Getting close enough can also let the party strike first and gain the upper hand.
Jobs, Skills, and Party Building
The original game’s eight jobs return, joined by two new options: Monk and Archer. That brings the total number of available jobs to ten.
Battles reward the party with skill points. Once enough points have been earned, new skills tied to the current job become available.
Changing jobs does not reset a character’s level, making it easy to try different combinations without starting over. Mixing jobs and abilities opens up plenty of ways to create a party that feels completely your own.
Five jobs are available from the beginning. The other five are unlocked gradually as the adventure moves forward.
A Retro Adventure With Room for Imagination
What happens when a modern RPG steps back into the cartridge era?
Dungeon Antiqua 2 keeps its storytelling intentionally simple. Rather than filling Dungeon Antiqua 2 with long cutscenes, it relies on short dialogue and compact pieces of text. The approach leaves more space for the player’s imagination and lets the dungeon itself become the focus of the adventure.
Demo Save Transfer and Handheld Support
Progress made in the demo can be carried over to the full game.
On a standard Windows or Mac computer, the demo and full version use the same save files. After playing the demo, simply launching the full version allows the adventure to continue from the existing save.
For devices such as the Steam Deck, the process is slightly different. After starting the game, open the menu in the upper-right corner and choose “Inherit Data” > “Backup Save data.” Select the save created after completing the trial version to receive a six-digit code.
Once the full version is installed, go to “Inherit Data” > “Restore Save data” and enter that six-digit code to bring the demo progress across.
The download also contains an executable intended for certain supported handheld devices. For compatible hardware, open Settings > Manage > Browse Local Files, find dungeon-antiqua2.pyxapp, and transfer that file to the handheld.
