Explore a City Trapped Between Two Timelines

After a mysterious catastrophe tears reality apart, portals begin opening into different points in time. What remains is a beautiful but broken world where entire buildings seem to exist only in fragments. The goal is to uncover what happened, restore the damaged architecture, and prevent the city from disappearing altogether.

One of the most interesting aspects of Desolus is the way it blends its eerie setting with a surprisingly calm atmosphere. The game begins outside a striking castle, with little explanation of the disaster that has taken place. A looming catastrophe hangs over the landscape, yet exploration feels peaceful for much of the journey. The sound of footsteps and a soft, melancholy piano soundtrack provide company as empty halls and crumbling corridors reveal more of the world.

Bend Time and Solve Mind-Bending Puzzles

Black holes serve as the main tool for solving the game’s intricate puzzles. By manipulating them, players can move between different periods in time, shifting objects and sections of architecture to reconnect structures that no longer fit together. The concept feels reminiscent of Escher’s impossible designs, with distorted spaces that challenge players to rethink how rooms, passages, and buildings connect.

The puzzles start with relatively simple interactions before introducing new mechanics and combining them into more demanding challenges. Although the solutions can be tricky, the game rarely makes them feel unnecessarily obscure. Most interactions revolve around pressing buttons and changing the position of objects, so experimenting with different arrangements can sometimes reveal the answer unexpectedly.

That simplicity works well with the first-person perspective and the need to maintain a clear line of sight. Often, the hardest part is figuring out how the different pieces of a puzzle relate to one another when they cannot all be seen at once. Trying different combinations becomes a natural part of the experience rather than a frustrating distraction.

As the timeline grows increasingly unstable, these challenges become more involved, putting spatial awareness and observation to the test.

Ancient Technology and a Race to Save Desolus

Beyond its time-shifting mechanics, Desolus introduces technology left behind by a lost era. Holograms can be activated to move enormous portals between different floors of ruined cathedrals, opening routes through buildings that only partially exist in any single timeline. These sequences add another layer to the puzzles and make the city’s fractured architecture feel like an essential part of the gameplay.

The journey also brings players into contact with a mysterious guardian who holds a connection to the city’s fate. Working together, the aim is to stop a looming cataclysm from merging the past and future, an event that could destroy everything left of Desolus.
