Deep Blue: Devour and Evolve PC (Build 24624050)

Strengthen your abilities by plundering flesh fragments.  Collect coins to unlock unique species like swordfish and great white sharks, each with exclusive skills. Climb to the top of the food chain by evolving your size and tactics! Deep Blue: Devour and Evolve is a lot of fun even if it is basically Feed and Grow Fish 2. Pretty sure they’re even using the same game engine, given how carcass mechanics and starfish work at Deep Blue: Devour and Evolve. It’s superior in a few ways though: Prehistoric and modern creatures have their own biomes, and only things that survived can be found in both, i.e., jellyfish, crocodiles, etc.

Deep Blue: Devour and Evolve also runs more smoothly and doesn’t feel like as much of a grind as F&GF did, especially since they don’t have the medal system (bronze, silver, gold) to stress over. Leveling is challenging, but fair, and at no point, even after reaching level 70, does it feel like it’s taking too long. Another big plus? No “decorative” schools of fish: You can eat/interact with them all. Downsides include spawning. While awesome for making your own school, it costs a chunk of your EXP bar, and every new fry starts at level 1.

It takes some time and work to raise kids, even as an aquatic animal. The weird part is that you never need a mate; you just drop a pre-fertilized egg, which kinda detracts from the experience. Likewise, EVERYTHING moves in a school, even species that shouldn’t, such as Great White Sharks, Whale Sharks, and many others. There’s no predator-prey relationships: i.e. sea turtles should be stalking jellyfish as their first choice but don’t. Same for Great Whites and seals or other mammals in Deep Blue: Devour and Evolve.

The maps also feel smaller, and there are only two of them, which is kind of a bummer. Hopefully the devs implement a mating system (find a mate to lay an egg, maybe even give an option for the mate to take the kid instead of you) and more maps. Deep ocean, coral reefs, maybe a river delta/swamp or marsh, a river, etc. Likewise, more varieties of fish would be good. The base model is the clownfish, but there are LOADS of other “basic” fish in the game. Maybe unlock them as skins for the clownfish after eating so many of each kind? All in all, it’s just nitpicking.
