Thankfully, the boat comes with a harpoon system that can make dealing with obstacles much easier. More harpoons become available as Water You Doing? goes on, giving the crew more ways to handle whatever gets in the way. There is plenty of room for creative solutions, too.

Fishing is another big part of the trip. Catching fish isn’t just something to do between disasters; the fish can be sold for money, which can then be spent on useful items that improve the crew’s chances of surviving.

The boat also needs constant attention. Wood and scrap can be collected and used to repair damaged sections before the whole thing starts taking on water. Looking after the crew is just as important, though. Getting knocked out doesn’t necessarily mean the trip is over, since another player can bring a fallen teammate back using a Golden Fish.

The final destination isn’t really the main attraction here. The fun comes from the journey, especially when playing with other people. Wandering away from the obvious route can lead to more resources and items, and there is even a chance of discovering the secret of Laba the Frog.

What Is Water You Doing? Like?

The easiest comparison is RV There Yet?, but with a boat instead of an RV. The two games have a very similar approach to chaotic co-op, where physics, ridiculous situations, and the constant struggle to keep everything under control create most of the fun.

The big change is the setting. Instead of trying to keep an RV moving, the crew is stuck on the water, repairing a boat, fishing for supplies, collecting scrap, and firing harpoons at whatever happens to block the way.

It’s a great setup for playing with friends. The boat physics can lead to some genuinely funny moments, especially when everything starts going wrong at once. At the same time, those physics can be frustrating when the boat behaves in a way that feels completely unpredictable. A few parts of Water You Doing? still feel rough around the edges, although that doesn’t necessarily hurt a game built around chaos and comedy.

Anyone who enjoyed RV There Yet? and wants that same kind of unpredictable co-op experience in a boat should give Water You Doing? a look. Water You Doing? is at its best with friends, where the ridiculous situations become much more entertaining.

Best With Friends

The RV comparison is hard to avoid. The basic idea feels familiar, only this time the vehicle is a boat and the players are responsible for keeping it moving.

At least two friends are recommended for the best experience, while four players feels like the sweet spot. Having a full crew makes the jobs easier to divide up and also gives the chaos more room to shine.

Overall, Water You Doing? has a fun idea and delivers plenty of chaotic moments, particularly when played with a group. It has some rough edges and a few frustrating systems, but the combination of boat physics, fishing, repairs, exploration, and co-op may be enough to keep a group laughing through the trip.
