But before that, he’s off on vacation to a beautiful house in the middle of nowhere, staying with Silvia, Steven and Fabien. He expects three quiet weeks of boredom and small talk in Summer Vacation. He couldn’t be more wrong. Between familiar faces that have changed far more than expected and a whole new cast of friends, the walls Mat has carefully built around himself start to crack.

But summer doesn’t last forever. As time passes and university begins, the relationships Mat has forged — and the choices you’ve made — follow him into a new chapter of his life. New faces, new challenges, and deeper connections await. In terms of the characters, the least favorite would be either Mathew or Jin. Mathew overthinks just about every action he takes. It’s like, “I got this glass of water in Summer Vacation. Wait, why didn’t I get a glass of fruit punch instead?? Does this mean this or that? Let’s ponder it for the next year.” The tendency to overthink is relatable, so it’s easy to empathize. Still, there were a couple of moments that were eye-roll inducing.

It almost made me want to reach into the Steam Deck, shake him, and tell him, “Just enjoy the moment, dang it!” Summer Vacation contains explicit adult content. All characters depicted are 18 years of age or older. Summer Vacation is an adult visual novel for players aged 18 and over, featuring frequent and explicit depictions of sexual activity between adult men. The sexual content includes full male nudity, solo and mutual masturbation, frottage, oral and anal sex, with ejaculation. Some scenes take place in semi-public settings and include elements of voyeurism and the use of sex toys. Some sexual content is presented through the protagonist’s dreams and fantasies.

The narrative explores themes of desire, temptation and consent. All sexual activity depicted is between consenting adults. The game also depicts the social consumption of alcohol, and a storyline in which a character’s sexual orientation is revealed without his consent, leading to homophobic reactions. It touches on internalized homophobia and self-acceptance, and includes self-harm and suicidal ideation; the affected character receives support and professional help. These elements are handled with care, and nothing is shown graphically. All characters depicted are adults aged 18 or over.
