Brother fights brother, gunpowder fills the air, and trouble can turn up almost anywhere. For a clever merchant, though, war can also mean opportunity—and maybe even a little romance along the way.

You play as Mr. Law, the new owner of a slightly battered merchant ship. The goal sounds easy enough: leave Quebec, make your way toward Spanish Louisiana, buy cargo cheaply, and sell it for a healthy profit. There is just one small rule to remember: don’t sell your soul to a demon.

Naturally, things don’t go quite as planned.

Take your ship between more than 13 ports while dealing with a constantly changing wartime economy. The conflict affects everything. Blockades can cut off supplies, battles can send demand through the roof, and even the Dutch can somehow cause trouble for the tulip market. Push your trading too far and your own deals may even drive prices down.

Crew members need wages, morale needs attention, and the cargo hold can be upgraded as the business grows. Taxes become increasingly absurd, debts pile up quickly, and staying out of the debt collector’s reach becomes part of the challenge.

If games such as Recettear, Sid Meier’s Pirates, and FTL sound familiar, the mix should feel recognizable. Throw all three ideas into one chaotic package and things get considerably stranger.

Romance Across the Colonies

Every colony and state is represented as a girl, and each state-chan operates her own shop. They all have their own quirks, personalities, and dialogue at HIROTONFA’s American Revolution Smuggler.

Connecticut is the bookish type. New Jersey has quite a temper. Florida spends time wrestling gators. New Hampshire might be a ninja. Build social stats from the humble rank of “fleabitten sailor” toward becoming a “dashing seafaring gentleman,” then take a favorite state-chan out on dates.

Romance options are being added throughout development and are part of the planned Early Access roadmap. Each relationship comes with its own conversations and events, with certain dialogue choices capable of making a character happier.

Pick a Side—or Play Both

The war isn’t going to wait around for the merchant in HIROTONFA’s American Revolution Smuggler. Towns can be sacked, prices can suddenly jump, and the world continues changing even while business is being handled.

Choose between Patriot, Loyalist, or trimmer—or try playing both sides until the consequences catch up. Alignment affects which ports will welcome the ship, which vessels will pursue it, and which state-chans are willing to speak with you.

At sea, battles use dice-based mechanics inspired by 100% OJ. Roll for attacks, defense, and evasive moves while dealing with Royal Navy patrols, privateers, sea monsters, and the occasional Flying Dutchman at HIROTONFA’s American Revolution Smuggler.

Luck plays a big part in survival. When the situation turns against you, the way those bad rolls are handled can make all the difference.
