Faster, More Strategic Gameplay

The on-field action has received a noticeable upgrade, with new super moves adding extra impact to everything from passes and tackles to blocks. Matches now put more emphasis on strategy, particularly during goalkeeper-versus-shooter showdowns. Powerful super shots and defensive moves inspired by the original series make these encounters some of the most dramatic moments on the pitch in CAPTAIN TSUBASA 2: WORLD FIGHTERS.

Compared with Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions from 2020, the overall pace feels quicker. Chain combos play a much larger role, while dribble-versus-tackle encounters feel smoother and less rigid. After around two hours of play, the differences from the previous game are already quite noticeable.

A Much Larger Soccer Roster

CAPTAIN TSUBASA 2: WORLD FIGHTERS expands its soccer universe with 22 national teams and over 110 playable characters. More than 150 cutscenes also showcase special moves and key moments during matches.

Several teams that have not previously appeared in the games make their debut here, alongside original teams and characters. The detailed animation helps bring these matchups to life, especially when familiar players unleash their signature techniques.

A New Story Based on the World Youth Arc

The story continues from where the previous game ended, following Tsubasa as he faces a new group of powerful rivals. This chapter draws from the World Youth arc and features expanded storylines supervised by the original creator, Yoichi Takahashi.

International teams compete for global glory in CAPTAIN TSUBASA 2: WORLD FIGHTERS, giving the story a much wider scope. The NEW STARS ROUTE adds another layer by letting players create a custom character, earn a place on the Japanese national team, and fight alongside Tsubasa on the journey toward the world title.

Features of CAPTAIN TSUBASA 2: WORLD FIGHTERS:

Music remains an important part of the experience. Tadayoshi Makino of SpinSolfa, who worked on the soundtrack for the previous title, returns with more than 100 energetic tracks. The music fits the fast-paced matches well and adds plenty of excitement when the action starts heating up.
The cel-shaded visuals also suit the anime-inspired presentation. Signature techniques such as the Drive Shoot and Tiger Shot look particularly impressive, while defensive moves can send opposing players flying across the field. Japanese commentary, sound effects, and the anime-style soundtrack work together to recreate much of the atmosphere associated with the original manga and anime.
The presentation does a great job of capturing the spirit of Captain Tsubasa, and fans of the series should find plenty to enjoy in CAPTAIN TSUBASA 2: WORLD FIGHTERS. The updated gameplay is faster, the special moves are more dramatic, and the expanded roster gives matches a lot more variety.
That said, not every major moment is playable. A fair number of exciting scenes are delivered through cutscenes or text sequences instead of direct gameplay. For dedicated anime and manga fans, that can still be a fun way to experience the story. For players who are less familiar with Captain Tsubasa, though, the heavy focus on its characters and story may make CAPTAIN TSUBASA 2: WORLD FIGHTERS somewhat harder to connect with.
