Books are at the heart of Black Cat Book Club. Forgotten tomes can be unlocked and read, with each one providing its own upgrade as progress is made.

Reading is more than simply waiting for a book to finish. Ancient texts contain glyphs that use Focus to uncover their meanings. Each decoded glyph moves the current book closer to completion and opens the door to more magical discoveries.

Once enough knowledge has been gathered, different forms of magic become available. Players can learn and use sigils, summoning seals, alchemy, and astral magic, giving the library plenty of magical flavor without turning Black Cat Book Club into something overly demanding.

Build a Personal Tower

Customization adds another fun layer to the otherwise quiet gameplay. The cat can be given different fur patterns, eye colors, and accessories, while magical artifacts and decorations can be unlocked to make the tower feel more personal.

There is room for even more customization, though. Extra cosmetic choices could include different candles for the cat’s desk and additional glasses, such as half-moon frames. Cosmetic prices could also increase gradually as progression continues, making new unlocks feel more meaningful.

The tower itself could offer a stronger sense of ownership too. Instead of always playing as Alice, players could take on the role of the mage, choose their own name for the character, and give their cats names of their choice.

One of the nicest parts of Black Cat Book Club is how naturally it fits alongside everyday desktop activities. The library can be moved and resized, while zooming in allows a closer look at the cat and the surrounding details. The presentation could benefit from a little more control over lighting. The warm fireplace glow sometimes makes details such as fur patterns and eye colors harder to see. Better lighting balance would help those customization choices stand out.
A few quality-of-life additions would also make the experience smoother. If several books have already been purchased, the cat could automatically continue to the next one after finishing the current book. Items such as the feather pen could also use clearer explanations so their purpose is immediately understandable.
Progression could be expanded with achievements for milestones such as completing one, five, or more shelves, as well as leveling up the tower.
The soundscape has plenty of room to grow as well. Rain could feel less repetitive by varying the intensity and adding occasional touches such as soft wind, distant bells, subtle sparkling sounds, or rustling leaves and foliage. Those small changes would make the library feel even more alive without taking away from its peaceful mood.
