This is a puzzle game matched with a deckbuilder! Customise your spellbook and weave spells with coloured stones.
Witching Stone combines elements of puzzle games, roguelites and deckbuilders! Incrementally improve your spellbook, and find patterns on a unique puzzle grid, to battle deeper and deeper into the dungeon! The combat system consists of connecting gems in patterns to cast spells, which you add/modify throughout the run. The spells have nice synergies, and the modifications are balanced to the point where you’re rewarded for making a clever spell, but you don’t need perfect synergies to win a run.
It’s a refreshing way to do combat that isn’t just a recycled version of Slay the Spire. Outside of just combat, the story is cute, the art is great, and the soundtrack is bangin. The vibe is cohesive all the way to the hidden unlocks and achievements that make it feel like a game from an older era (although less frustrating).
Features of Witching Stone:
- In combat you draw a path across the stone board, and where it passes over the requirements for your spells, they will be cast in order.
- While there is no time pressure, enemies will fight back! Attacking you not only with damage and harmful status effects, but also affecting your spells and stone grid.
- As you progress, you upgrade with new spells, new enchantments for those spells, and increases to your stamina or casting ability.
- Build the perfect spell book! And fight past monsters and bosses, deeper into the procedurally generated dungeons.
