Umfend PC Game 2018 review:
You play an unnamed protagonist who is building a machine that attempts to rip open a hole in time and space. Before he can activate it, a mysterious entity begins to contact you with cryptic messages that hint to a shared past.
An atmospheric horror about love and time. The completion takes approximately two hours. Mysteries and mild jumpscares weave into the fabric of space and time, taking you to places where you have never been.
Maker Cat’s surreal writing gallops elegantly through each chapter. The story begins the Morning of 1996, then leaps nine years in the future, to then regress back to high school. Umfend’s narrative forms a bow with its non-linear structure, only to be untied by an ending that connects all dots. But even with a coherent narrative that checks out, Maker Car still manages to leave the existential questions surrounding time, memory, and reality unanswered. Umfend features minimal dialogue. Memories slip away unnoticed for those of us who are a little scattered, a little aloof, a little absent minded.
