All you can do is attempt to live! The most recent iteration of the survivor genre is Touhou: Gensokyo Survivors, which this time adds the novel twist of a grid-based inventory system. If you want to live, stockpile as many things as you can!
Gensokyo has been overrun by fairies, youkai, and all other sorts of monsters! It’s up to Reimu and other residents of Gensokyo to resolve this incident, or at least try to survive it…
It is quite long, but I hope that the developer will pay attention to it, since I write it out of sheer appreciation and because I see a great potential in Gensokyo Survivors. Also, please note that I’m not asking for ALL of the features to be in the game, but I genuinely think that there’s value in making this game better, hence why I am trying my best to write a comprehensible feedback.
The game is fun for what it is. It’s a much simpler take on the vampire survivors formula, with its unique mechanic being an inventory system where you need to fit the weapons you take in the allotted spots, with weapons varying in size and shape. On top of that, having certain collections of items touching each other gives you a big attack related to those items. The unique mechanic is Very Cool and I like it a lot and that alone justifies the dollar I spent here more than enough lol.
Pros of Touhou Gensokyo Survivors:
- A grid based inventory system, try to fit as many weapons into your inventory as possible!
- 26 different weapons, each with 2 different attack modes!
- 5 different spell cards for full screen youkai extermination!
- 8 different playable characters!
- Runs last about 15-20 minutes on average.
