When you pick a person you start your excursion of going through stages with each floor having an alternate beast subject to them; with the last fight being with the primary person for that foe bunch being in the fight development. Before fight you can move around spells you opened during your runs.

Likewise, you can move units around to what positions you feel best. It has 2 rows..one for bleeding edge and backline..the essential idea being you cannot go after the back until the unit before it is dead. There is mechanics to go after back column and stuff like that and avoiding the front etc..but is somewhat past the point.
