Put the “Love” in Lovecraftian Horror

What happens when a mysterious comet comes crashing through the ceiling and lands right in an apartment? Things get strange very quickly.

Sucker for Love: Crush Landing pulls the player into a bizarre conflict between light and darkness. Keeping her flame alive could mean saving the world. It might even lead to a kiss along the way.

Cosmic gods. Unnatural creatures. Forces that supposedly exist far beyond human understanding.

Looking at such beings should be enough to drive anyone mad.

At least, that’s what the stories claim. Everything has an explanation, right?

Then a strange meteorite appears, surrounded by bright, shifting flames of different colors.

And suddenly, it crashes straight into the living room.

Art

The visuals are easily the strongest part of Sucker for Love: Crush Landing. They feel like a step up from the previous two titles, with a lot of care put into both the character designs and overall presentation. The music also fits the atmosphere nicely and gives the game a classic visual-novel feel.

The biggest drawback is the lack of a proper gallery, especially considering there aren’t many particularly memorable CG scenes to collect. It’s a small issue, though, and overall Sucker for Love: Crush Landing looks and sounds very good.

Story

The story is where things become a little less impressive.

There are plenty of endings, just like in the other games, but finding a clear path through them can be confusing. Many endings also feel underdeveloped. Some arrive quite suddenly, suggesting that something bigger might happen later, while others simply bring the story to an abrupt stop.

Nothing is outright broken here, but the narrative doesn’t have the same sense of progression and character development found in the earlier games. There’s plenty going on, but much of it stays on the surface. It ends up feeling broad rather than particularly deep.

Characters

The character writing has much the same issue.

Dude and Hheily receive most of the attention, while many of the other characters only appear for a couple of short scenes. They’re generally enjoyable and easy enough to like, but there isn’t enough time spent developing them.

Hheily is easily the standout. She’s cute, charming, and genuinely endearing, making her easy to root for. Even so, she could have used more depth. Some of the other girls receive more character development in a single act than Hheily gets throughout the entire game.

Romance a Comet

A mysterious comet has landed right in the middle of the living room, and its strange presence seems to demand one thing: fuel.

Giving in means meeting Hheily, a sentient comet capable of changing her form into almost anything — including a very attractive woman.

She may seem sweet and harmless, but her arrival on Earth is no accident. There’s a much bigger reason behind her journey, and getting close to her comes with a price.

How much is worth giving up for a chance at a kiss from the hottest comet in the galaxy?

Deal With the Unwanted Visitors

Hheily’s arrival doesn’t go unnoticed.

Her influence begins changing the world around her. Plants grow out of control, colors become more vivid, and animals start undergoing strange mutations. Before long, other beings are drawn to her flame, and they aren’t exactly friendly.
