Well, as we love space sims even reading the negative reviews we thought the game couldn’t be that bad. Mainly that an update has just been released that added mouse and keyboard control (a game with a Hotas) and configuration for more than one joystick. The first point against was that in the resolutions there are several, minus 2560 x 1080 that would fit our 21: 9 monitor, the screen was already bad. Then the options for configuring the joystick (hotas) sucks and badly to properly configure the control. The campaign is waged until you complete the tutorial and in the tutorial, the game crashes to the desktop all the time. Even so, we went to the instant action and after playing a few moments we could see which is the game.
Pros of Starfighter Origins Remastered:
- The similarities with Wing Commander and Freespace are that its missions based but there are no wingmen tactical commands. They fly according to script and there seems to be slight variance when the AI interacts with other AI or your action or inaction.
- In the first campaign mission, if you don’t hit the trigger points in the game properly, the transports ships would move too slowly. On the other hand, if you hit them properly, they will move normally, thereby shortening their travel time.
- Or if you lead the enemy fighter to the transports they seem to move even quicker. Here is where we noticed a flaw s in the scripts, if your wingmen die, they will continue to broadcast radio messages giving you cues and help to move the story along.
- It’s kinda like flying with ghost squadmates but it’s fine. The alternative is silence for the rest of the mission or the developer has to write additional scripts to account for a change in narrative or mission flow.
