This story really recounts the conditions of living among the German people after the fall of the Third Reich and sets the dramatic tension political powers had when the Soviet Iron Curtain began to fall on Eastern Europe. There are very clever allusions riddled throughout the story such as alluding to System X proposed by people in the FDR administration as in the book “When the War Ends The Road We Are Traveling” (1942), also references to the struggles Japan had in their fronts on China and Korea as well as the political backlash of Pearl Harbor. Such a setting encapsulates the real shock and awe the war had on the world and the people whose lives forever changed and the lives of the fallen.
