For anyone who enjoys immersing themselves and simply sitting back to enjoy the experience, this strikes a very nice balance for the price.

It doesn’t feel nearly as surreal as LSD Dream Simulator, Hypnagogia, Blackshard, Fatum Betula, Dream BBQ, or Beyond Crimson Stars, but it captures a similar feeling found in some of the levels from those games. Those titles are also worth checking out for anyone looking for similar vibes. It also feels as though the developer didn’t quite experience the analog world before everything went digital but longs for that transitional period. If that was the intended direction, it was executed very well.

The experience is memorable and makes for a worthwhile way to spend an hour or two. It’s easy to recommend nophenia to anyone who needs to stop and breathe before the weight of stress and anxiety becomes overwhelming. You’re never truly alone, but it’s okay to be alone. There are tons of different environments to explore, each unique and visually appealing. nophenia also features a wonderful ambient soundtrack. The music is easily one of its strongest aspects, creating an incredibly chill and relaxing atmosphere. Overall, it’s a very laid-back experience. If you’re into liminal space games and want something relaxing, this is well worth checking out.
