At its core, My Fire Is Bigger Than Yours is all about scaling up a small fire into something on a completely different level. The main appeal comes from finding useful synergies, trying different builds, and figuring out which combinations can push the fire further.

The progression is split into three phases, with each one acting as a prestige. Your placed buildings are wiped when moving forward, although purchased upgrades remain.

The first phase starts off fairly slow, but things become more interesting once additional buildings start becoming available. That said, the fun only lasts for so long. Once the META becomes clear, there is much less experimentation involved.

Phase 2 is where things start dragging. The beginning moves quickly because some upgrades carry over, but the later part turns into a grind for the handful of remaining upgrades capable of pushing progress forward. Their prices climb rapidly, too. At one point, around 10–15 minutes were spent doing little more than waiting and putting together the draft for this review.

Phase 3 has a particularly strange setup. Buildings located around the center of the screen carry over, but they end up packed together despite the game’s existing space limitations. There is so little room available during this phase that fitting everything you can unlock becomes a real problem. Mess up the placement and recovery can be painful.

Progress also feels slow here unless the META has already been figured out and the right upgrade has been unlocked to significantly increase gains from each round. My Fire Is Bigger Than Yours was apparently even rougher around release, although that earlier state wasn’t experienced firsthand.

Upgrade

There are more than 200 upgrades to unlock, giving plenty of room for different builds. These upgrades affect how the fire grows, spreads, and interacts with other objects.

Strategize

There are several ways to approach My Fire Is Bigger Than Yours. Focus heavily on one flammable type, look for cascading reactions, or build an automated setup that handles as much as possible on its own.

Whatever route is chosen, the end goal stays the same: beat the Sun.

Features of My Fire Is Bigger Than Yours:

There is no button to end a round early. Once the fire becomes enormous, newly spawned fuel gets burned almost immediately. As a result, lightning, bomb, and cultist bonuses become practically useless after the first 5–8 seconds of a roughly 70-second round. Those opening seconds appear to generate most of the income, while the remaining time mostly turns into dead time because the bonus stacks have already disappeared.
Another annoying limitation is the inability to remove buildings that end up hurting the setup. Explosives are probably the biggest offender. Instead of benefiting from the lightning and cultist multipliers, they take those multipliers and replace them with their own, which is considerably weaker.
The whole My Fire Is Bigger Than Yours takes roughly two hours to beat, but the final achievements turn that into a much more tedious experience. After around 1.5 hours of grinding for the last three achievements, Cheat Engine’s speedhack was used simply because the process had become unbearable. The grind reaches pretty extreme levels, especially when My Fire Is Bigger Than Yours doesn’t clearly explain what is actually needed to move forward.
Fully maxing everything requires around 40 trillion, while average income can remain around 200–600 billion per round even after 1.5 hours of grinding. The income does continue to improve, increasing by roughly 2.3× every 7–12 rounds, but each round takes around 80–85 seconds.
