As we explore this new world, we will discover an exciting and moving story that will make us wonder about our role as AI and the differences between natural and artificial lives. In Other Waters is not a game like the others, far from being satisfied to bet on its only arty side and independent game without too much means, it manages to develop a whole original universe magnified by an elegant interface and which will be our main gameplay tool throughout our underwater adventure.
Not content with being an adventure-exploration game, it also introduces some aspects of survival and we will have to hang on and read everything we will discover during our journey to manage to survive. Sometimes it will take initiative to make the best use of what we have on hand to supply our base and our combination of oxygen and power.
Our actions are not necessarily very numerous but it is possible to do a lot of things with very few buttons on our interface. First, we can chat with our bad luck mate, Ellery and answer her questions, and then gain her trust and bond with her. It’s very hard to imagine, but the Ellery-IA relationship is remarkably well written and highlighted in In Other Waters.
