The world you are about to enter is one where the deceased return to life. This phenomenon has existed since ancient times. However, those who come back are not the same individuals they once were. They emerge from the grave lacking cognitive abilities, memories, and awareness. Their bodies, devoid of any regenerative capabilities, gradually decay. In Japan, these individuals afflicted with the disease are known as “hihiru.” While they were once revered as sacred beings, society eventually began to ostracize and despise them. Eventually, their condition was recognized as a medical problem and given the name Aerodema.
Now, at the beginning of the Taishō Era, Dr. Shūhei Katori conducts field studies to enhance living conditions and support systems for Aerodema patients. Given the slower progress in Japan compared to other countries, he faces an uphill battle. The story unfolds through the perspectives of two men: Masamitsu Chigusa, a young doctor assisting in these studies, and Takeo Tenma, a student who has only seen Aerodema as a distant issue until now.
