This is most certainly not a game for everyone. I purchased Golden Light because the store page alone made me curious. When I first played it, it actually made me physically sick. I found it repulsive and it made me uncomfortable in a way that few things can. At the same time I kept going back to it, wanting to play and experience it more. The mesmerizing visuals, the strange story whose interpretation is a piece of work itself, the intriguing characters one meets throughout one’s stay in this bizarre world which can only be experienced, not described and the perfectly fitting soundtrack – all of it made me want to overcome my initial sickness and I did… eventually.

To me this game is an absolutely astonishing piece of art, for whose creator I have deep respect. Golden Light is daring, strange and original. I’m really no good at the gameplay, but that has become somewhat secondary to me. I am much more intrigued by what is going on inside the giant piano player’s head or how the speaking head on my bicycle came to end up where he is and how he maintains his humorous attitude in these baffling surroundings – although he might be all serious, who knows.
