The moves of the monsters are shown in advance. To prevent the monsters from killing your units, you need to calculate every step, monitor the stamina, and push the monsters at each other. Monsters attack anyone within their attack range. If you successfully move the enemy or step aside, then the enemy will fall under the distribution instead of your characters. Even if the enemy does not die from the clutches of a fellow tribesman, he will be stunned, and this is your chance to run to the end of the field and win.
