Doors of Insanity is developed as a dungeon crawler. You go through dangerous mazes full of monsters and traps. Each dungeon is filled with different doors marked to pass through and culminates in a boss battle at the end. Doors can be opened in random battles against enemies, dangerous mini-bosses, merchants, healing pits, and random events. The only thing they have in common is that your choice determines the outcome. You might come across a razor blade and choose whether or not to cut yourself to get a new card. At the beginning of any race, you first select a basic deck of cards. You have to include 10 cards, chosen from a small handful of options. The three main options are an attack card, a defense card, and an ignition card. But each time you die, you can choose an additional card to take with you to the next race. The only downside is that you can only keep one copy, while you can make as many copies as you want of the three basic cards. You will also acquire other cards that increase the size of your deck as you play.
