“Bloody Hell” is a short and usually to-the-point three-hour bullet hell where you fight enemies, defeat bosses, and search for Satan. The enjoyable art design is easy to read and despite it taking place in Hell) never feels excessively morbid or repetitive. Controls are easy to use, being a twin-stick shooter with a few Metroidvania abilities and some merchants to buy small selections of items from. I would have liked if my DualSense hadn’t had Xbox button prompts, but the controls are very responsive throughout. Bluntly, if you’re like me and you’re not very good at these games, this would be a great place to start.

Difficulty is very gentle at first and steadily increases throughout; I never felt like any areas contained disproportionate ‘spikes,’ and crucially, all of the boss fights were fun and unique and felt fair. I didn’t actually die until about halfway through the game (you lose half of your accumulated currency), but while I succumbed many times against the final two boss fights, I always felt like I had an understanding of what my errors were and what I can do to improve.
