The updated classes all bring different strengths, abilities, and ways to approach combat, giving squads plenty of room to experiment. Depending on who is on the team, the same mission can play out quite differently.
The xenomorph threat has also been stepped up. AFE2 adds a wide range of new xenomorph types, forcing players to keep moving, watch their surroundings, and make good use of the equipment available. Close-range fights can become especially dangerous, with stun batons providing an option when enemies get too close. Pyro and electric ammunition can help thin out the relentless waves before they completely surround the squad. A battle can go from controlled and tense to a desperate last stand in a matter of seconds.
Features of Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2:
- The combat itself feels decent, although the gunplay lacks some of the weight and punch found in similar shooters. Weapons can feel a little floaty, which takes away from the impact of landing shots.
- The enemies are also somewhat underwhelming so far. Only the first mission on normal difficulty has been played at this point, so there may be more variety later on, but the early encounters mostly involve enemies charging straight toward the squad without offering much variation in Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2.
- AFE2 also launches with several dedicated Horde maps. These missions throw increasingly dangerous waves of xenomorphs and other enemies at the squad, with better rewards waiting for those who manage to survive deeper into the assault. This mode really puts teamwork, positioning, and combat skills under pressure.
- Weapon and gear customization has been expanded as well at Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2. On top of that, the Specialist class gives players a lot more freedom when building their character. Major and minor abilities from the other available classes can be mixed and matched, allowing a loadout to be built around a preferred playstyle or whatever role the squad is missing.
