There is sandbox gameplay featuring stats and inventory items, but also a narrative throughline with goals and progression. You died! Things aren’t so bad though, as you find yourself reborn in an island paradise filled with fantastical monster-people. You now have a second chance at life, filled with adventure, relaxation, and romance!

From a narrative point of view, the game starts off very strong, with an introduction that includes the stages of life through paintings and extensive illuminated paths representing Purgatory, making you feel like you’ve really died. After this presentation, the game takes a more comical tone, making jokes with similarities between the bureaucratic system and Purgatory, where it also takes the opportunity to give a small introduction of the island to which it is to be sent her, that is technically a kind of rebirth with some limitations.

Once on the island, the protagonist meets the secondary characters with whom she will form bonds of friendship and intimacy. These characters are the ones who give her a tour of the island’s surroundings and also give her another extensive explanation of how things work there in 8th Heaven.
