Lost Caves PC Game 2021 review:
This is a cute pixel-art platformer that will remind you of old-school 8-bit adventure games like Pitfall, Montezuma’s Revenge, and Spelunker, but it extends that formula to include multi-layer parallax scrolling, tight controls, and catchy chiptune music.
There are some very thoughtful design elements that help to avoid the need for a tutorial — for example, collectible items and coins are often arranged to help you time your jumps, icons like a “hieroglyphic floppy disk” identify elements like save points, and each cavern has a progress meter at its entrance/exit so you can get a sense of many of the available treasures are yet to be collected. The various puzzle elements are clever, and the controls don’t get in the way of timing your jumps or dashes correctly. It’s a great game, and for only a dollar, there’s no question you’ll get a huge return in entertainment value and challenge on your investment. Bravo, Adam D. Smith!
A fun, well-refined platformer taking gameplay notes from Cave Story and Kirby Super Star’s Great Cave Offensive, alongside other retro titles. Featuring very in-depth level designs to explore and a banger soundtrack, Lost Caves is a surprisingly in-depth and enriching experience (pun intended).
